I posted awhile ago about one of my favorite standbys in Raleigh for food (plus atmosphere) – Remedy Diner.

What a lucky shot for me above.

Any place featuring artwork portraying one of my favorite actors, Bill Murray (from a movie of one of my favorite directors, Wes Anderson), gets chocolate lava cake points (brownie points) from me.

Another busy day at the bar.

Jeez, look how hangry (hungry enough that I’m getting angry) I’m getting… this is no way implies that it took a long time for food to arrive, just that there was a long wait to get a table!

I LOVE their fries and Real Reuben (you can get that vegan btw).

My other half went the healthy way – a whopping serving of a greek salad with chicken. I like it too, but I like pastrami even more.

food love – Sticky Fingers Bakery.

I was recently thinking about Sticky Fingers. No, not the Rolling Stones album (although it is quite good)… I’m talking about my favorite stop in DC for sweets, Sticky Fingers Bakery.

Doron Petersan started Sticky Fingers back in 1999.

And much to the delight of vegan hearts everywhere (oh, did I forget to mention that it’s vegan?) she ensures that taste is priority #1. In fact Sticky Fingers won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars All-Stars competition!

The winning flavors, you ask?

Rolling Stones Brown Sugar: brown sugar cupcake, rum frosting topped with brown sugar brittle.

Man in Black Johnny Cashew: black cocoa cupcake, black cocoa dark chocolate frosting topped with dark chocolate cashew candy.

Salt-n-Peppa Inspired: chocolate bourbon smoked pepper cupcake, salted caramel and vanilla bean frosting topped with fondant candy headphones.

Chuck Berry Inspired: orange cupcake with blueberry cinnamon filling, raspberry frosting topped with a sparkly red fondant guitar.

I could really use a cupcake right now.

Sticky Fingers has expanded beyond cupcakes (and sweets for that matter) into a full menu of both sweet and savory items.

However, for me, sweets are where it’s at. Ever tried their pumpkin cheesecake? You’d never know it’s vegan!

Sigh… I’m ready for more!

I realized a few weeks back that I hadn’t posted any local restaurant reviews in awhile. So, I’ve decided to continue that series focusing on some of my favorite standbys in Raleigh.

Let me tell you about Remedy Diner…

Located downtown at the corner of Hargett and Blount Streets and run by some of the nicest people you’ll meet in Raleigh. Seriously, every one who works there is very friendly!

Inside the windows hold one of my favorites things – stars.

Wondering why I like them so much? During the Christmas season in the part of India my family is from you’ll see these stars hanging outside almost every house. At night it’s absolutely wonderful to see house after house illuminated with with these beautiful stars. (So, it reminds me of home! sniff sniff…)

Now, let’s move on to more important things…

Remedy has an interesting mix of drinks on their menu… two favorites: Anxiety Antidote and Snake Oil.  On this visit though I chose Aviator’s Frostnipper Winter Warmer, a full-bodied, smoked spiced beer…

…to eat with my…

…french toast. What? What am I supposed to have? Coffee? Jeez, I’m sounding like a I have a problem. Actually I had a cup of coffee before I arrived at Remedy. Anyway back to my yummy french toast – slices of Texas toast  grilled and topped with sugar, butter and kiwi!

My other half opted for the breakfast burrito – scrambled eggs nestled between black bean relish and pepper jack cheese and topped with fresh pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. And before I forget – one the greatest things about Remedy is their extensive offering of vegan items. I have a mild milk allergy but their “Alternative Therapies” like vegan key lime cheesecake and vegan reuben allow me to indulge in my favorites without sacrificing taste or health!

And after all that there was nothing left. **This was not our table, btw. I would never leave such a mess!**
