When I look back at these photos I ask myself “How did I not gain 30 lbs on this trip?”

I was kicking myself in the butt for waiting till the last day to stop at Made Creative Bakery. I walked past this sweet shop every morning and it was even on my ‘go-to’ list!

I knew I could get cupcakes from numerous shops back home. But this place was mentioned in a number of food blogs… it was definitely worth the visit!

Nope, that’s not a savory sandwich up there!

Above: Made Creative Bakery, via dei Coronari, Rome.

Don’t get the idea that you can walk past Forno Marco Roscioli and not buy something! It’s impossible!

They have the most incredible window display!

Those meringues look big, right? They are! They were bigger than the size of my head!

Casa & Bottega, via dei Coronari, Rome.
The one thing I had to have each day? A bombolone filled with nutella. I miss it so much! (My waistline doesn’t miss it though!)

Ok, so it’s not REAL people… just work with me here!
They have just as much personality as people do!

Shooting with my telephoto lens allowed me to see these statues in a different light… I was amazed at how expressive they are!

The Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna in Rome is a wonderful stopping place for people watching…
…typically crowded with hundreds of tourists from all over the world.
But amongst the sea of people only one person truly stood out that day…

She has the most beautiful icy-blue eyes.

And she has incredible style (check out those gloves!)… should have asked her for her portrait!

One of my favorite things to do while in Europe is to stroll through open air markets.

Why? Well, in my town they’re not many of them. And often times the open air markets end up selling mostly processed foods rather than fresh fruit and veggies. So, seeing fresh foods for me is a real treat (sad, I know!). And this was the first time I was seeing very fresh zucchini flowers!

These photos are from Rome’s Campo de’ Fiori (field of flowers), not too far from Piazza Navona. During the morning they are an open air market, at night it is transformed into a social gathering place.

Many have told me that the market has changed quite a bit in the last several years. They sell less fresh fruit and veggies with more hawkers and processed food sellers taking up space.

But still there is an abundance of fresh food to see, smell, taste and buy!

I loved seeing produce with leaves still attached… peaches, Amalfi lemons, figs, and of course zucchini as shown in the first pic.

Dried tomatoes were prevalent along with conical bags of spices and dried pasta.

And of course, let us not forget the street hawkers with their cheap goods. It’s impossible to miss them in Rome.
